About the Philadelphia Section

As Civil Engineers, we have a commitment to the local community. We get involved in school programs and conduct public forums. We often have volunteer days, such as with the Friends of the Wissahickon to help maintain the trails at Wissahickon Park. We have a Trailwork Day almost every June, and a mural on I-76 near Spring Garden Street illustrating what civil engineers do.

Pictured here is Philadelphia’s City Hall, standing in the center square of William Penn’s original city grid, is a National Historic Landmark and has been a focal point in Philadelphia’s skyline throughout the building’s 100+ year history.

  Our Mission

ASCE's mission is to provide essential value to our members, their careers, our partners and the public by developing leadership, advancing technology, advocating lifelong learning and promoting the profession.

  Technical Groups

The Philadelphia section includes six (6) technical groups to encourage additional interaction among engineers within a specific discipline. Please consider becoming more involved in the technical group that matches your professional interest:

  • Construction
  • Delaware Valley Geo Institute (DVGI)
  • Engineering Management
  • Environmental and Water Resources
  • Structural
  • Transportation and Urban Development

Technical groups coordinate targeted lectures and events, organize field trips, and have special break out sessions at the monthly section meetings. If you are intersted in joining a technical group, or if you have event suggestions or topics you would like to hear about, please contact the appropriate Technical Group Chair.

  ASCE Philadelphia YMF
  The membership of the Younger Members Forum ("YMF") includes college students, recent graduates, and young engineers, including registered Professional Engineers, who are 35 years of age and younger. The objectives of the group are:

1. To provide networking opportunities;
2. To interact with schools and the general public to promote civil engineering;
3. To enhance career development.

There are no additional annual dues for participating in the YMF or being notified of events.
