ASCE OutreachAs
a Section, we reach out to local students to show them the wonders of
engineering, through visiting schools and talking to them. We make
presentations at schools and try to answer students' questions about civil
engineering. We have grade school coloring books, age-appropriate video tapes about engineering, various hand-outs, and Powerpoint presentations available for your use if you are interested in visiting a school. In 1998-99, we visited dozens of schools and made contact with over 1,000 students.
Other Outreach Programs Additional outreach programs are conducted by other various organizations. For more information, click on the links below.
ASCE Philly wants to know when you visit a school! Send us the name of the school, how many students you met, and any photographs, and we'll post the information here. Let's see just how many students we can reach! Contact Us. Section
Members Scholarship “This
year, 2006, is the 300th anniversary of Benjamin Franklin's birth. Benjamin
Franklin was an important figure not only in U.S. history, but also for
science and engineering. From studies of electricity, weather and ocean
currents to his development of the lightning rod, double spectacles (bifocals)
and the odometer, many of his innovations and discoveries were groundbreaking.
In what ways do you want to contribute to society and humanity as Benjamin
Franklin did using your Civil Engineering experience and education?”
